Obituary for Elizabeth H. Potter (Hess)
Elizabeth H. Potter, 78, of Pleasant Gap, died on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born on April 8, 1939, in Clearfield, PA, a daughter of the late Merlin and Adline Hess. On April 8, 1961, she was married to Herman G. Potter who preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, John Potter and his wife Nancy of Boalsburg, David Potter and his wife Wanda of Philipsburg and William Potter of Pleasant Gap; two grandchildren, Peter Mali and his wife Chelsea, and Nathan Potter and his fiancé Samantha; two great grandchildren Exodus and Aeris Mali; one brother Merlin “Sonny” Hess of Clearfield, sisters Gladys (Robert) Kline of Grampian, Carol (Robert) Robbins of Clearfield, Joyce Whaling of DuBois, Marcia (Clarence) Root of Clearfield, and Ellen (Dale) Russell of Red Lion. She was affectionately known as Aunt Betty or Aunt Sis to many nieces and nephews who also survive.
Elizabeth graduated from Clearfield High School. She and her husband Herman moved to Centre County in 1964 where she thrived at motherhood. She made each son feel special in her own way, be it a favorite meal or birthday or activity they were in. From time to time a stray cat would find its way to the front door. She would nurse it back to health and take it in.
Family and friends will be received at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. An additional gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Zachary McDonald officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park.
